Once a loo. Now a luxe underground retreat.
Oxford isn’t exactly known for rule-breaking design. But The Netty flips that idea, literally underground. Brought to life by designer Rachael Gowdridge (The Hoxton, Gleneagles,) this boutique stay is tucked inside two restored Victorian public toilets, and somehow, it works. What was once a municipal lavatory now oozes plush, curated charm.
Each of the rooms are accessed by a private street-level staircase, giving the whole place a secret-lair-meets-design-lab feel. The interiors pull from Oxford’s surroundings with artwork inspired by the Ashmolean Museum while rich textures and layered materials soften the subterranean setting.
