Blame it on Fallout, Severance or just the collective craving for a cooler future with better fonts, but retrofuturism is having a major moment.
The aesthetic — equal parts vintage glamour and sci-fi daydream — gets the five-star treatment at Nashville’s historic Hermitage Hotel. No need for a doomsday bunker or workplace memory wipe to experience it.
Sure, people check into the Hermitage for the history (it helped secure women’s right to vote no big deal), but the women’s restroom at Drusie & Darr might be the real showstopper.
Step inside and it’s like falling into a neon-tinged wormhole, with marble walls, archways that feel straight out of Metropolis and soft rose-gold lighting that makes everyone look like they just walked off a music video set.
There’s something delightfully disorienting about it: 1930s glam meets 1970s sleek with a dash of “please take my picture.” The sinks feel like props from a Kubrick film, and the whole thing toes the line between museum installation and bathroom break. Call it a pit stop for design lovers, or just your new favorite selfie spot.
