Between shady hosts, off-brand listings and surprise chores on checkout day, the platform feels less like a travel hack and more like a travel trap. And now, Spain is saying adios too. With unlicensed rentals causing an overflow of tourists and pricing out long-term residents in hot spots like Madrid and Barcelona, the country recently ordered Airbnb to pull more than 66,000 listings in a major crackdown.
