Cake is everywhere right now, and not just on dessert plates.
It’s doubling as art, accessory, centerpiece and content. It’s not that cake is new to fashion, or even new to pop culture. But right now? Post-pandemic, our collective obsession with baking never really cooled and this moment feels like the inevitable sugar rush.

In London, Violet Cakes founder Claire Ptak is pastry-chef-in-residence at Alaïa’s secret cafe. A$AP Rocky featured statement gun-shaped cakes for his first AWGE show, and Suea, the pastry world’s cool-girl favorite, has made kitschy cakes and butter sculptures for GANNI, PAPER Magazine and Parade, each one practically begging to be photographed (and devoured).
