Say hello to The Six Bells Countryside Inn, a storybook stay in Rosendale, New York, that turns every guest room into a tiny folklore universe. The Brooklyn-born home goods brand expanded its country-coded fantasy in the Hudson Valley with an 1850s inn, and the result feels like stepping inside a novel.
The innkeepers take getting into character to the next level as they pulled inspo from English villages, American pastoral charm and a fictional hamlet called Barrow’s Green, where wells get dressed in flowers and ravens haunt the halls.
Whatever your interior kryptonite—archival wallpaper, canopy beds, pine cladding, frilly skirts, Tyrolean folklore—one of the 11 rooms will call to you. If it seems like every lamp, wallpaper scrap and carved bed frame has a backstory… that’s because it does.
The Innkeeper’s Suite, inspired by imaginary family travels to the Austrian Alps, channels the Tyrolean vernacular with handmade wallpaper, a hand-painted box bed and persimmon window shades that feel charmingly maximal without going off the rails.
For the “more is more” among us, The Lamplight is painted in shades of peacock blue and soft brick and depict the story of Eustace Ashbee, former vicar of Barrow’s Green, who is said to have been madly in love with Lady Rosemary Ashborne, mistress of Cranbrook Manor. The two were spotted late one light by the Nid River, caught mid-embrace in a beam of lantern light. A week later, the vicar vanished. Drama!
The Six Bells hotel features a restaurant and tavern called The Feathers, which offers a menu rooted in early American and traditional country cookery with dishes inspired by regional history and tradition.
The Six Bells feels like The Sound of Music meets the Hudson Valley and is definitely one of our favorite things.
