Only 2 days until the big day! No, not Halloween, boos. National Candy Corn Day returns October 30 honoring a deeply polarizing candy that’s been part of fall tradition for more than a century. Fun facts: invented in the 1880s, candy corn was originally called “Chicken Feed” and, although consisting of corn syrup, gelatin and honey, it’s technically fat free. Today, according to the National Confectioners Association, more than 9 billion kernels of candy corn are sold each year.

But, not everyone is Team Candy Corn. Technically neither corn nor candy, the tri-colored, waxy Halloween treat often divides a room faster than politics and religion. Candy corn stans look forward to the nostalgic, sugary taste all year while the rest of us are slightly repulsed by the sensory experience of eating what tastes like overly sweet earwax.

Thankfully, new twists roll out every year giving us less chewy ways to enjoy the Halloween classic. Delish gives us the Candy Corn Colada, Food Network shares a Candy Corn Cheese Tower and we even found a Candy Corn Pizza.
